How to make your software work
on Windows Vista

Software from HEALS was originally designed using Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0 and runs on Windows 95 and up. It is compatible with Windows 98, Windows 2000, Windows XP, and even Windows Vista because these operating systems are backwards-compatible with Windows 95. However, on XP and Vista you do have to run the program as an Administrator to make it work.

Here is how to make it work...

Step 1 - Install the software (If you already did that, skip to Step 2)
Please follow the normal instructions for installing the software. However, instead of double-clicking on setup.exe to start the process, right-click it and chose Run as administrator. This may not be necessary, but it could help.

See this page for a complete explanation of the installation process.

Step 2 - Fix your icons
First, find the icon you use to start HEALS Simulated Registry Exams. It could be
  • on your desktop
  • on your Start Menu
  • on the All Programs section of your Start Menu

To fix an icon on your Start Menu, click Start and then find the icon.

Right-click the icon for Simulated Registry Exams and select Properties.

You could also have clicked All Programs and then clicked Health and Allied Science Publishers, and found the Simulated Registry Exams icon there:

You could also have found the icon directly on the desktop. Regardless of how you found the icon, right-click it and choose Properties. You will receive this screen:

Click the Shortcut tab at the top of the screen. Then, on the Shortcut tab, Click Advanced, which brings up this screen:

Check the box for the option to Run as administrator. Click OK. You will then receive one or more confirmation dialogs. You may also receive a confirmation dialog from your firewall or other security software. Here is an example:

Click Continue. Click OK or Approve or Yes or Accept on any popups that appear.

After this, you should be able to run the program by double-clicking the icon.
